What can be monitored?
DAS – Distributed Acoustic Sensing
Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) converts an optical fibre, up to 40km long, into tens of thousands of individual and real-time vibration sensors. DAS provides a lot of applications based on sound analysis.
FBG – Fiber Bragg Grating
A fiber optic Bragg grating (FBG) is a method by which gratings transmitting/reflecting light of in advance set wave lenght are created at defined spots. Gratings can be implemented into fiber with different spaces between each other. The sensor is capable to intercept a change in the lenght of the grating and therefore measure changes of mechanical strain, deformation, pressure and vibration at discreet points of optical fiber. The technology allows connecting sensors in chains of different lenghts, it is also possible to monitor complicated and large structures at predefined places. FBG is most often used for Structural Health Monitoring.
